It is very convenient to use the CB antenna installed on the car, not only for radio communication, but also to improve radio reception in the FM band. However, a device is required that would allow both a CB radio station and an FM receiver to work on one antenna without damaging the latter with a powerful transmitter signal.

Duplexer CB/VHF

For this purpose, you can use a very simple device - a duplexer. His circuit is a combination of 4 series resonant circuits that pass signals of some frequencies and suppress signals of others.

The L1-C1 and L3-C3 circuits are tuned to the middle frequency of the C-B band (27,2 MHz), and L2-C2 and L4-C4 are tuned to the beginning of the FM band (90 MHz). Coils L1 and L3 are wound with insulated wire 0,5 mm in diameter on plastic frames 7 mm in diameter with ferrite cores. Frameless coils L2 and L4 have 8 turns of silver-plated wire with a diameter of 1 mm, wound on a mandrel with a diameter of 6 mm. The details of the duplexer are placed in a shielded box, on the walls of which the "FM", "CB" and "Ant" connectors are installed.

To configure the manufactured device, a GSS tuned to a frequency of 27,2 MHz is connected to the "Ant" connector, and 50 Ohm resistors are connected to "FM" and "CBS".

By controlling the RF voltage on these resistors (for example, with an oscilloscope), by adjusting the inductance of the L3 coil, they achieve the maximum voltage at the C-B connector, and by tuning L1, the minimum voltage at the FM connector. Then the GSS is tuned to a frequency of 90 MHz, and, by changing the capacitance of the tuning capacitors C2 and C4, achieve, respectively, a minimum voltage at the CB connector and a maximum at FM.

These operations are desirable to be done several times. ensuring that the 27,2 MHz signal at the "FM" jack is at least 40 dB attenuated.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Flexible Solar Panel for Boats 19.02.2023

Lightleaf has developed a new 110W carbon fiber PV module for boats.

"Our latest product is designed for the offshore market focused on sailing and powerboats with limited space, where weight, functionality and appearance are important," a company spokesperson said. "We have designed the seaLeaf panel with built-in hardware, but there are also panels with interchangeable mounting kits designed to work in the marine environment."

The Canadian solar manufacturer said the SeaLeaf has a rigid carbon fiber foam base instead of glass. Its dimensions are 1073 x 575 mm, thickness 9 mm and weight 2,5 kg. The curved solar panel includes two quick-release clamps mounted 50cm apart. They're supposed to be able to attach to any one-inch rail and go back 180 degrees to track the movement of the sun.

The new module has an open circuit voltage of 22,9 V and a short circuit current of 6,35 A. It uses 32 SunPower Maxeon GIII Premium ME3 monocrystalline solar cells with an efficiency of 25,1%. The junction box is sealed, uses two shunt Schottky diodes and is IP67 rated. The unit includes a 3 AWG 14 AWG marine grade round cable with a XNUMX meter spigot end for easy installation of the bulkhead gland.

The SeaLeaf costs $650 and comes with a three-year manufacturing warranty and a five-year power output warranty. Leightleaf has previously developed carbon fiber solar panels for the RV market, but has mainly targeted small trailers with limited space.

The feature of the panels allows them to be installed during transportation and removed/deployed during parking.
