PHILIPS FISIO 311 Mobile Phone Review Review Philips phones have always been conceptually different from the devices of most manufacturers. The new Philips Fisio 311 model, announced in February this year along with the 310 and 312 phones, was no exception. The differences between the models are insignificant: for example, the 312 has games, 15 voice tags, and wap browser. The simplest device, Philips Fisio 311, offers the user a minimum of features, which is not surprising, since all three models belong to the class of entry-level phones. With small dimensions (110x45x18 mm) Philips Fisio 311 weighs 109 grams, and, according to the manufacturer, it can work up to 400 hours of standby time and up to 4.5 hours of talk time. Unfortunately, Philips does not provide battery capacity data in the press release. The standard delivery is a nickel-metal hydride battery with a capacity of 670 mAh. It is enough for about 3-4 days with 5-7 minutes of calls per day. The design of the battery is typical for the latest models of this company, but differs from the traditional one: it is connected to the contact pads of the phone using a special small connector. Some inconvenience that occurs when connecting the battery is due to the fact that at first it is completely fixed, and only then the connector is connected. The back cover of the phone, which covers the battery, simply snaps into place and securely fixed with plastic holders. To open the lid, you need to pull hard on it. The keyboard is made of rubber, the size of the keys is small - it is not always convenient to press them. Next to the four-position navigation key there are two-position send call and hang up buttons: by pressing the top part, you dial a number or hang up, respectively, by pressing the bottom one, you call up the wap-browser (here it is version 1.1). The right key performs the function of the C button, i.e. when pressed for a long time, it locks the keyboard, and in the menu it moves up one level. The design of this model seemed very attractive to me. The tube does not look small or oversized - medium size and interesting appearance. The first thing that catches your eye is the display recessed into the case. This design reduces the possibility of contact with the screen during a call (to touch it, you need to forcefully press the phone into your head). As a result, the display is practically not dirty. The screen contrast can be adjusted, 5 levels are available. Text is clearly legible and easy to read; green backlight is not particularly bright, but you can work at night. Formally, the display shows 5 lines, but this is not entirely true. One line of text can consist of 16 characters, but almost all menus and submenus use a graphical version of the information presentation, that is, icons and their captions occupy the main place. So actually 2 lines are displayed on the screen, in which the text is combined with the image. No other phone model has such an integration of the image with the displayed information. In general, all graphic images in Philips Fisio 311 are large and of high quality. The 50 icons present in your phone can be used as a screen saver or when sending an SMS message to another Philips phone. In addition, you can customize the text of the welcome message. In standby mode, the screen displays an analog or digital clock, date or broadcast message, battery level (4 bars), signal strength (4 bars), vibrate and key lock indicators. As a screensaver instead of an analog clock, you can choose one of 5 icons; I also advise you to pay attention to the function of random selection of icons - in this case, they will alternate on the screen in a certain order. The main menu is organized like a carousel, with only one icon placed on the screen. Entering the menu is done by pressing OK (one of the positions of the navigation key), moving to a higher level - by pressing C or the navigation key (up arrow). There is no quick menu navigation, but it is possible to configure up to 8 shortcut keys. Deviation of the navigation key up brings up the phone book, sideways - the menu for adjusting the volume and type of call. The menu is simple and thoughtful, without a lot of sub-items. Its main difference is the absence of lists as a structural element. I will give a simple example: to select the volume of the call (out of 4 positions - mute, quiet, medium and loud), you need to scroll through 4 icons, the current state is indicated by a checkmark. The same principle is implemented in other submenus, where a choice of several items is supposed. Even features like the call list are organized like a carousel. When scrolling through the list, you see a phone icon with a picture of the type of call (incoming, outgoing or missed), the phone number is displayed at the bottom. To view the time and date of the call, just press OK, pressing this key again accesses a submenu that allows you to save this number in the phone book, send a message to it, delete the number from the call list, or simply dial. The phone book is implemented in accordance with the same principle, which is not very convenient. A quick transition to the typed letter is provided, which makes it much easier to navigate through the book. It is possible to select numbers for speed dialing, however, remember that speed dialing is combined with "hot" keys to access menu items. There are 8 such keys in total (as already mentioned), which is quite a bit. Partially saves the situation is voice dialing for 5 numbers, which can be used to call menu items. When trying to record two tags with the same name, for example Tanya, the phone freezes on the second tag. Too long words (the name Tamara pronounced slowly) cannot serve as a label. Entries in the phone book for which voice dialing is provided are indicated by a special icon. Labels are recognized very well: even in conditions of high noise level, the phone dials or calls the desired menu item. Philips Fisio 311 does not support Cyrillic, for English there is T9 predictive input. When you try to read SMS messages written in the "language of native aspens", the phone may freeze. There is only one alarm clock in the 311 model, but it can be set to one, daily or weekly (with a selection by day) operation and, by the way, works even when the phone is turned off. Setting the alarm, you see a clock in front of you, similar to those displayed on the screen in standby mode. Other features include a stopwatch, the Bricks game (a variant of the arkanoid) and a calculator. Impressions As a soundtrack for an incoming call, you can choose one of 30 tones and melodies (including your own), which, of course, is not bad. The volume of the call, even set to the maximum, is often not enough. If you are going to carry your phone in a holster or on a belt in a case, then the vibrating alert will save the situation: it is really powerful. Suffice it to say that when the vibration worked for the first time (the phone was on my belt), I twitched in surprise. In a word, the vibrating alert in this model deserves all praise. The volume of the speaker in noisy places sometimes wants to be increased (and this is no longer possible). The sound is quite clear, voices are clearly distinguishable. The overall picture is somewhat spoiled by the hissing speaker and constant noises, which, however, do not interfere with talking: you quickly get used to them. The Philips Fisio 311 has everything you need for an entry-level phone. Like any other device, it has its strengths (vibrating alert, long battery life) and weaknesses (not the best menu and a small number of shortcut keys) sides. I think this model will find its fans, although it will not become extremely popular. In terms of functionality and price, Philips Fisio 311 is a competitor to Panasonic GD35. Now I would like to say a few words about my little discovery. All Philips press releases for the 310, 311 and 312 models describe in detail the inherent characteristics of each of these devices. So, declared only for the 312th model, the ability to set a welcome message using one of 5 icons, and the Bricks game are also supported by Philips Fisio 311. If the device were "by mistake" assigned functions that it actually does not have, it would be would be much clearer. Author: Eldar Murtazin See other articles Section Mobile Legends.
