Review
Appearance: Outstanding. The pipe is not for nothing that the people nicknamed the "banana". The flyer reads: "Try putting your hand up to your face so that your fingers are touching your ear and your palm is touching your lips. Comfortable, isn't it? Now remove your hand and look at the curve of your palm. This is the perfect shape for a cell phone because it follows the shape of your face. Nokia is shaped like that." There is nothing to add, advertising does not lie - the phone is really very convenient. Generally speaking, I want to note the fact that a very beautiful, beautifully printed weighty booklet (though not written in Russian) was sold along with the phone, which somehow the language does not dare to call "operating instructions." The overall size is 141x48x25 mm - of course, a bit too much for a modern mobile device, but, nevertheless, it fits in the side pocket of jeans (only something else is unlikely to fit there). I believe that when buying this model, it is the large size that is the main argument against it. From my own experience, I’ll say that there’s nowhere to put your phone at a disco - it constantly strives to jump out of your pocket, there are few inexpensive cases with a secure fastening, and it won’t give you a special bandura on your belt. It is also uncomfortable in the cinema - the pressure on the organs close to the pocket of the pants is great. When closed, there are no buttons or levers on the front panel, which is very beautiful and stylish. The screen is large enough, dot-matrix, contains 4 lines of alphanumeric characters and graphics, greenish backlighting (very nice). The antenna is located in the back - right corner on the upper surface of the tube, length - 2 cm. If necessary, it is very easy to change, as it simply unscrews from the phone. (It should be noted that, in addition to the standard one, you can buy a longer, or, say, two-color antenna on the market. The choice is huge, and these decorations are not very expensive. They are also found in more respectable stores.) convenient and clearly visible on / off button, marked in red. On the other side is a double volume control button. It needs to be said about her. When talking, adjusting the volume is very convenient, since the index finger of the right (or big left) hand lies on it. The speaker adjustment range is quite wide - at maximum volume, the subscriber can be heard even in the subway when the train is moving. The control keys on the front panel are covered by a plastic cover that slides down. When opening, it can be fixed in two positions - only the function keys are available or the entire control panel is open. On the back surface of the cover there are two tracks - contacts going to the speaker. They are not covered by anything, so, theoretically, they can be scratched, but during the operation of my phone, no damage was revealed. The lid itself moves along the case along a kind of rails, the ingress of dirt on which causes difficulty when closing and opening the phone. In general, a sliding cover seems to me a more practical solution than an opening one, as, say, in many ericsson devices - it is more difficult to break it, and the mechanism does not become loose over time. The microphone is located on the inside of the cover from below. From external influences, it is covered with a glued plastic plate. It should be noted that the audibility in the phone is excellent. You can talk both with the lid closed and with the lid extended. Moreover, at the maximum expansion, the microphone is almost one centimeter from the mouth, so you do not have to shout in the subway or in a moving car. This tube does not have a "barrel" effect either. Speech distortion is felt, but it can be explained more by the quality of domestic networks, and not by a poor coding system of the phone. This feature is characteristic of almost all phones with digital signal encoding, but on this instance it has practically no peculiar features. The keyboard of the device is quite functional and comfortable. The buttons are large, their designations are easy to read and do not fade over time. You can navigate through the menu using the four arrows: up, down, right, left. Considering that the device itself constantly tells you what to press, even a child can deal with them. To answer a call, you need to press any button, although usually it is a volume control key - it is large, not covered by a lid, it is easy to get to it. There is nothing special to say about the screen - it is quite large, all the inscriptions and symbols are well read. A very handy thing is the automatic font size change. You don't have to break your eyes, and the text fits 4 lines. The signal reception level and battery level are always available. They are located on the right and left sides of the screen. The backlight is very soft, greenish, there is only one option, but I really like it too (although modern phones often use sharper colors.) I use a lithium battery as a power source, which lasts about 140 hours of standby time (or about five hours of talk time.) The battery does not have a memory effect, so it is not necessary to use a discharge device. It takes about two and a half hours to fully charge from a 220 volt network. Other batteries can be purchased from dealers, but I don’t see much point in this. The high-capacity battery is larger and takes longer to charge. Concluding the technical part, I want to note that the phone is assembled very high quality. It is not for nothing that he has been the flagship of Nokia for a long time. The buttons have not changed their natural color, there are almost no scratches on the screen. During the entire period of operation, the battery has not become loose, no latches have fallen off, and in general, the phone looks almost like new. Settings, functions, connection quality Now about the settings, functions and quality of communication. Without a pin code, you can only see the battery level and call 112. If you enter a pin, you get to the base page: there is a network indicator, signal level, battery level, access to memory and menu. Everything reads well, no questions arise. The menu is big enough. For better orientation, the phone itself tells you what to press.
Everything seems to be on the menu, now about the quality of communication. Friends are known in trouble, cell phones are in the zone of uncertain reception (in those distant corners of the Moscow region where cell towers are not finished.) In general, the handset (and, most importantly, its owner) feels quite confident in the zone of "uncertain reception" . With a standard antenna, the network is caught satisfactorily, you can talk calmly even if the signal strength indicator is at zero, and only the name of the mobile operator is displayed. If you screw in a longer antenna instead of a standard one, then the reception improves by about 1 point (according to the indication on the screen). During the operation, I noted one feature, which, however, applies not only to this phone: in places where there is no reception at all, you can still catch the network by standing under a high-voltage transmission line pole. The signal is uncertain, the connection often breaks, but you can still say the necessary minimum. Service I did not have a chance to deal with the repair of my own phone: the handset simply never broke. Out of curiosity, I once removed the plastic cover covering the speaker, removed the sliding front panel, and untwisted the case itself. The insides are quite densely assembled in the case, it is not so easy to understand them. After a short thought, I put everything in its rightful place, the phone acquired a virgin look, and, oddly enough, worked without changes. My good friend had to talk with electronics repair specialists, and he did it twice. The first failure was caused by the fall of the device on concrete steps through two flights of stairs in an ordinary high-rise building. I must say that the usual negligence affected the phone not fatally: the glass of the liquid crystal screen and the plate covering the microphone at the back cracked. After checking, it turned out that the handset can still fulfill its direct duties. Outgoing calls were sent, incoming calls were received normally. The sound quality was not disturbed: there were no distortions in the affected phone, the subscriber also did not feel any special changes. The perception of the image from the screen did not bring much joy - the black bar spoiled the whole picture. After two days of searching and thinking, it was decided to replace only the screen, since for the repair of a normally (so far - and 5 months have already passed) a working microphone, they asked, in my opinion, too much. The cheapest solution is to buy a screen separately and involve a private master in the repair. The most reliable (but also expensive) is to contact the service, they even give a guarantee. The second time the repair could have been avoided if the phone had not fallen into playful children's hands. The result of curiosity is the replacement of the contact group responsible for recharging the battery. They didn’t think up much - they immediately turned to the service. In general, there are a lot of service centers in Moscow that are ready to repair pipes of this brand, there are no problems with spare parts, the prices for repairs are the same as for other devices. Accessories In the end, I want to talk about accessories for this phone. It is quite easy to get a cover for almost every taste. There are leather with seams, leather without seams, something more like a bikini. The palette of colors and materials is huge - from crocodile skin to natural fur and even silk. If the phone will be used in a car, I advise you to purchase a hands-free kit. Of the many proposed modifications, I liked the native one the most. Its advantages include the modularity of the system, harmonious appearance and excellent sound quality of the speakers. With frequent trips out of town, a useful thing is an external car antenna. With it, the network is caught much further from the transmitter, and the exposure is reduced. The appearance of the antenna is a matter of taste. When using various modifications, I personally did not feel much difference, but for objectivity it should be noted that there were only two of them, both of fairly good quality, well-known companies, more than 15 centimeters long. In matters of equipment installation, it is best to entrust your favorite vehicle to specialists, and leave the repair shop yourself, since it is not very pleasant to watch the appearance of a hole in the body of your own car.
