Give for lentil stew

Bible
Bible

Phraseologism: Give for lentil stew.

Meaning: To give something dear for nothing, to make an unequal exchange to the detriment of oneself.

Origin: From the Bible. In the Old Testament (Genesis, 25:31-34) it is told that the son of the patriarch Abraham, Jacob, was very jealous of his elder brother Esau, who was the eldest son and, accordingly, the main heir of his father. Once, when Esau was exhausted from hunger, "Jacob gave Esau bread and lentils ... and Esau neglected the birthright," that is, he gave his younger brother his right of seniority for lentil stew. Because he preferred material gain to family ties, Esau was cursed and became a wanderer.

Random phraseology:

Catch the moment!

Meaning:

1. A call to appreciate and use every moment, every day of life, which, like life itself, will never happen again. 2. A call to use every favorable opportunity that can change a person's whole life for the better.

Origin:

From Latin: Carpe diem. Literally: Seize the day. From the poetic message "To Leucippe" by the Roman poet Horace (Quintus Horace Flaccus, 65-8 BC): "Take advantage of the day, least of all believing in the future."

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

No spots left on the sun 07.06.2016

There has not been a single spot on the Sun since June 3, which indicates the beginning of an 11-year cycle of minimum solar activity.

Sunspots are areas where strong magnetic fields enter the solar photosphere. On the solar disk, they look like dark spots. Their temperature is about 1500 kelvins lower than other parts of the Sun's surface.

The eleven-year solar cycle is also called the Schwabe-Wolf cycle. This is a cycle of solar activity, lasting an average of about 11 years. It is distinguished by a rapid (in about 4 years) increase in the number of sunspots and a slower (about 7 years) decrease in their number.

The decline in solar activity entails a decrease in ultraviolet solar radiation, as a result of which the upper layers of the Earth's atmosphere are cooled and destroyed. This will lead to the accumulation of space debris around the planet. The heliosphere will contract and interstellar space will move closer to Earth, causing radiation from deep space to reach our planet with greater intensity.

Of the positive consequences of the decrease in solar activity, one can note the reduction of magnetic storms, which many inhabitants of our planet endure with difficulty.
