The smart one will not go uphill, the smart one will bypass the mountain

Mikhalkov S.V.
Mikhalkov S.V.

Phraseologism: Smart does not go uphill, the smart mountain will bypass.

Meaning: You should not go ahead, it is better to look for workarounds, more accessible ways.

Origin: From the poem "The Incident in the Mountains" (1938) by the poet Sergei Mikhalkov (1913-2009). The lyrical hero of the poem, who first came to the Caucasus, was advised to go to the mountains to see the real beauty. "Convinced - I went." But his heart, not accustomed to such ascents, protests: "You set off on a dangerous path, - // The heart thrashes in the chest. - // Sit on a pebble, unfortunate one, // Understand, don't go. // The smart one will not go to the mountains , // A smart mountain will bypass". Nevertheless, the author continues on his way and achieves his goal.

Random phraseology:

Categorical imperative.

Meaning:

What needs to be done at all costs (jokingly-iron.).

Origin:

From the work "Foundations of the Metaphysics of Morals" by the German philosopher Immanuel Kant (1724-1804). He understands by this imperative the absolute, complete submission of a person to the law of morality, above which there is nothing and cannot be, a law that must act with the inflexibility of the objective law of nature.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. Electric barrier to protect swimmers from sharks 02.12.2014

In a small bay in Cape Town (South Africa), an electronic system for repelling marine predators, which was developed by South African engineers, is being tested and, if the test results are successful, will be produced by an Australian company.

A 100-meter cable was fixed on the seabed near the shore with small posts generating low-frequency electric fields. According to the developers, such a barrier will protect swimmers, while not harming sharks or other marine life.

The fact is that the shark's nose is able to detect even very weak electric fields in order to find prey. By generating a field that is not strong, but sensitive to aggressive predators, such columns will create a shark-free zone in the beach area.
