Moral rearmament

Church
Church

Phraseologism: Moral rearmament.

Meaning: About the rejection of dubious (but "sanctified" by tradition, worldly experience of generations, etc.) principles and customs, about the establishment of new relations between people based on high moral values and common sense.

Origin: From English: Moral Rearmament. The name of an international religious organization founded (1938) by American religious preacher Frank Buchman (878-1961). Apparently, the original source of the expression is the thesis of "spiritual rearmament", which was mentioned in the encyclical of Pope Pius XI "Divini Redemptoris" (March 1937).

Random phraseology:

Eye of the sovereign.

Meaning:

About the special representative of the head of state (jokingly-iron.). Sometimes by tradition - about the prosecutor's office.

Origin:

The expression was formed on the basis of the words of the Russian emperor (since 1721) Peter I (1672-1725), said by him when he personally introduced the first Prosecutor General Pavel Ivanovich Yaguzhinsky (1683-1736) to the Senate: "Here is my eye, with which I will see everything ". The decree on the introduction in Russia of the "position of prosecutor general" was issued by Peter I on January 12, 1722. The main task of the "eye of the sovereign" was to oversee the Senate. (During the military campaigns of the tsar or his trips abroad, the Senate replaced him, acting as the collective ruler of Russia.) Immediately after the appointment of the Prosecutor General, Peter I began to draw up instructions for him (position position). In its first edition, he defined the status in the most exalted tones: "This rank is our eye and the heart of the entire State." The tsar finally approved his instruction only in its fifth edition, where the prosecutor general was called more modestly - only "the eye." On January 18, 1722, Peter I appointed Pavel Yaguzhinsky as the first prosecutor general, and Grigory Skornyakov-Pisarev as his deputy, that is, chief prosecutor.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Stratostatic Internet 19.12.2005

In Sweden, tested transmitters mounted on a stratosphere balloon.

Participants of the European project "Kapanina" (named after the cafe where the main idea of the project originated) want to provide all the inhabitants of the planet, and especially those living in remote areas, with the possibility of broadband access to the global network. To do this, they propose to place repeaters on stratostats - huge airships flying in the stratosphere. Such an organization of communication will be very cheap, since it is not necessary to build numerous masts in difficult places.

In October 2005, important tests were carried out in Sweden. On a stratospheric balloon with a volume of 12 thousand cubic meters, devices for transmitting radio and optical signals were fixed, and then it was raised to a height of 24 km. During the nine hours of the flight, it was possible to send and receive information more than once, and the ground points at which this was done were located at a distance of 60 kilometers from the launch site. And the stratospheric balloon itself was constantly moving, obeying the air currents.

The radio data transfer rate was 4 Mb/s, and the optical signal gave a record speed of 1,25 Gb/s. Such huge speeds, possible due to the direct transmission of a laser beam through rarefied air, will be used in the future for the exchange of information between stratospheric balloons. And the radio channel will provide communication with terrestrial clients of the network.
