End of story
Francis Fukuyama
Phraseologism: End of story.
Meaning: Completion of some business, event (jokingly-iron.).
Origin: From English: The End of History. Title of an article published (Summer, 1989) by Japanese-American political scientist Francis Fucujama (p. 1952) in The National Interest (USA). He wrote that human history, which previously was a history of the struggle of various teachings and ideologies, in a certain sense, ended: democratic values and the Western-style liberal economy triumph all over the world. In Russian literature, the expression "the end of history" was encountered earlier, for example, in the work of the Russian philosopher Vladimir Solovyov "Three Forces" (published in 1877).
Random phraseology:
Golden youth.
Meaning:
Youth from the wealthy classes, leading a life of idleness and entertainment.
Origin:
Expression - tracing paper from French. "jeunesse doree". It arose during the French Revolution. This was the name given to the wealthy counter-revolutionary youth who, after 9 Thermidor (1794), rallied around the leader of the Thermidorian reaction, Freron. The expression is found in The Secret History of the French Revolution by François Xavier Pages (1797). In the future, it lost its political meaning. Now the turnover "golden youth" is used in the meaning: children of famous, high-ranking parents, squandering money, leading a wild lifestyle. |

Artificial leather for touch emulation
15.04.2024
In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men
14.04.2024
The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>
Random news from the Archive Carbon storage in the North Sea
16.03.2024
Norwegian Energy Minister Terje Åsland has announced the launch of the Longship project, which aims to create a central carbon dioxide storage facility in the North Sea. This ambitious project is valued at $2,6 billion and aims to apply CCS (carbon capture and storage) technology to mitigate the impact of climate change.
Norway already has experience in CCS, thanks to the successful Sleipner and Snohvit projects, and is now looking to increase the amount of carbon sealed beneath the seabed. Longship's plan calls for capacity to capture and store 1,5 million tons of carbon annually over 25 years.
Despite the positive outlook, there are concerns about the long-term consequences of such storage. However, proponents of the project argue that offshore carbon storage has a number of advantages, including minimal environmental impact.
The Longship project is being carried out by Equinor, Shell and TotalEnergies through the Northern Lights joint venture. This project represents an important step towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
The Longship project in the North Sea is a significant step towards combating climate change and transitioning to more sustainable energy. Despite some concerns, this project demonstrates the potential of CCS technology and can make a significant contribution to reducing carbon emissions.
