Artificial leather for touch emulation
15.04.2024
In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men
14.04.2024
The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>
Random news from the Archive Electric van Volkswagen ID.Buzz
11.03.2022
Nearly 75 years since the legendary Volkswagen Type 2 minivan first rolled off the assembly line, the German automaker has relaunched the van as a state-of-the-art electric vehicle called the ID.Buzz.
The automaker announced two versions of the van at once: a 5-seat passenger and 3-seat cargo ID.Buzz Cargo. The van is based on the MEB modular electric drive platform. To date, ID.Buzz is the largest car model among those built on the basis of the universal MEB platform.
The passenger version of ID.Buzz has dimensions of 4712 x 1985 x 1937 mm, and the cargo version has similar parameters, but it is 1 mm higher. The distance between the axles is 2988 mm. The volume of the cargo compartment of the passenger version is 1121 liters, and the cargo compartment is 3,9 m3.
The base version of ID.Buzz, which will be the first to appear on European markets, will be equipped with an electric motor that is located on the rear axle of the car and provides 204 horsepower (150 kW). The power source is a battery pack with a total capacity of 82 kWh, which supports charging up to 170 kW.
You can charge the battery from 5 to 80% in 30 minutes. If necessary, the ID.Buzz battery can be used as a power source for other devices. Information regarding the power reserve was not announced. In the future, different versions of the van will be available to customers, including a short wheelbase model and a model designed for commercial use.
The interior trim is entirely made of synthetic materials. The steering wheel is made from polyurethane, while the seat covers, flooring and upholstery are made from recycled materials such as plastic water bottles.
The European version of ID.Buzz will receive a number of modern functions, including adaptive cruise control, driving assistant, parking assistant, etc. It is also reported to support the data exchange function between vehicles and road infrastructure elements. Software updates will be delivered over the air.
